Simple Steps to Staying Young and Healthy

December 23, 2014

At Hillandale, we work with residents and families throughout Butler County, Ohio, providing elderly care, assisted living and independent living communities. Our team is dedicated to helping our residents and friends feel as young and healthy as possible. Below are a few of our favorite ideas that you can try, too!

A beautiful environment and a comfortable atmosphere is at the heart of Hillandale. We encourage our residents to relax by taking part in planned activities, listening to their favorite music or taking walks around the community. These activities minimize stress which greatly benefits our body’s ability to repair and restore.

Eating good fats
For a real energy boost, make sure your meals and snacks include healthy fats and lean proteins. Our retirement communities offer many such choices in our cafés and fine dining areas. Fatty fish like albacore tuna and salmon along with lean proteins like chicken, beans, and eggs are all excellent examples for your diet.

Pouring a glass of red wine
Red wine is known to have many health benefits including lowering blood-cholesterol levels because the antioxidants in the wine may help protect the lining of the blood vessels in your heart. A reduced risk of inflammation and blood clotting are also possible benefits that lead to a lesser chance of heart disease.

We all know exercise is good for our bodies, but it can also be very good for our brains. The physical effects of exercise give us so many benefits that our mental health is strengthened and can help reduce our risk for diseases like Alzheimer’s.

Practicing Yoga
The practice of yoga teaches breathing techniques and stretches that are unique from traditional exercise. These techniques help tune the digestive and immune systems throughout your body to keep you moving, inside and out. When each of these systems is functioning properly, you will feel younger and healthier throughout your day.

At Hillandale, our experienced caregivers have plenty of other tips and suggestions for making the most of your health. Call us today at 513-777-1400 to schedule a tour of one of our three locations. We look forward to speaking with you!
