Top Fitness Gadgets for Seniors

February 28, 2014

Maintaining an active and full lifestyle are key roles in life at Hillandale.

We live in a digital age where more and more our lives are lived in concert with technology that is important to living healthy and being happy. We encourage keeping up with the times and consider incorporating some of these gadgets into your everyday life.

1. FitBit Zip

FitBit offers a wide variety of products that monitor your steps throughout the day. The Zip is FitBit’s entry level device. It can be easily clipped to your belt buckle or pocket (it’s the size of a quarter!) to track the steps you take in a day. FitBit Zip will encourage users to take more steps, and the app will let you know when you’ve reached your goals. The Zip comes in a variety of colors, and has a long lasting battery (watch battery) that will need replacing around twice a year.

$59.99 – The FitBit Flex can be found online at http://www.fitbit.com as well as www.target.com and www.bestbuy.com

2. FitBit Flex

The Flex is one of FitBit’s most popular products. It will track your steps like the Zip does, but it also has a “sleep mode” feature that will monitor your sleep cycle(s). Both functions are available of your mobile device, with a quicker sync than the Zip. Since the Flex doesn’t have a screen it measures the steps through 5 dots that are lit up as you get closer to your daily walking goal. Once you reach your goal, the Flex will buzz. Also like the Zip, the Flex will sync up with most popular calorie counting apps, like MyFitnessPal. The Flex gets its power from a charge and it comes with a USB charger. A full charge will last about 5 days.

$99.99 – The FitBit Flex can be found online at http://www.fitbit.com as well as www.target.com and www.bestbuy.com

3. Samsung Galaxy Gear

The Samsung Galaxy Gear is the first of likely many smart watches hitting the market this year, and it features many components that will assist in fitness and health. In addition to many apps that will be available for this device, it will also monitor your heart rate – something neither FitBit device can do. Also, it will allow you to count caloric intake and will let you take pictures of the food you eat.

$299.00 – The Samsung Galaxy can be found online at www.amazon.com  and www.bestbuy.com
